Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded prizes for her work, is a feminist blogger. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency which is an education non-profit site that examines the representation of women within popular culture narratives. In her efforts to break down stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she also works to address issues relating to harassing women targeted by the media and other classes of people online. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented speech at the TEDxWomen Festival and The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Inquiring about gender and feminism since an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at university. The ambitious lady planned to launch an internet series on gender representation in games, however, she was also the subject of a harassment campaign online. It was not enough to stop her. It actually increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critic. She is a recipient of numerous awards for her contribution to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award award-winning media journalist. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organization that explores pop culture representations of females.
