Her career in music began as a young girl, winning local contests by 10, and making her first recording at the age of 14. Signed to Rounder Records, her first album debuted in 1987. She was then invited to be a part of Alison Krauss Union Station, her current band that she sings with. Her debut album together as a group came out in 1989.
