
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter Josephine who works as a laboratory technician , as is John Ormond. Ormond is the second of five kids born to her parents. She went to private school, first Guildford High School and then Cranleigh School, where early leading performances in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady started to attract attention. After a year in arts school, she transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and graduated in 1988. Ormond was first seen on British television in 1989's series Traffik. This series focused on the illegal heroin trade across the world, from the far East to Europe. Ormond was the heroin-addicted daughter of the main character she was a Home Office minister who was involved in the fight against heroin importation. The role was a hit and received overwhelmingly positive reviews.
